THE PASSING OF THICH NHAT HANH

OCTOBER 11, 1926-JANUARY 22, 2022

The International Plum Village Community of Engaged Buddhism announces that our beloved Teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh, has passed away peacefully at Tu Hieu Temple in Hue, Vietnam, on 22nd January 2022 at the age of 95. Please take a few moments to be still, to come back to your mindful breathing, as we together hold Thay in our hearts in peace and loving gratitude for all he has offered the world.

Why Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is the energy of being aware and awake to the present moment. It is the continuous practice of touching life deeply in every moment of daily life. For more than thirty-five years, mindfulness has been taught in hospitals, prisons, mental health centers, schools, and corporate settings. Today, research shows mindfulness practice cultivates a sense of peace and well-being, greater emotional stability, and improved concentration. When mindfulness is coupled with universal humanistic values such as kindness, cooperation, compassion, and generosity, mindfulness can transform the experience of daily life and relationships and lead to more happiness.
