August Day of Mindfulness

A Day of Mindfulness in the Tradition of Thich Nhat Hanh

August 1, 2026 – 9:00 am to 3:30 pm

We appreciate your interest in Indigo Mindfulness Practice Center. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we regretfully need to cancel the August 1st Day of Mindfulness. If you have any questions, please reach out to IndigoSangha@gmail.com. Thank you for your understanding and support. We look forward to gathering with you in the future.

Both beginners and experienced practitioners are warmly invited to a day of mindfulness with Plum Village Dharma Teacher Heather Lyn Mann.

At this welcoming interfaith event, we will experience guided meditation, explore common ground between two great world religions, Buddhism and Christianity, and learn new ways to embody love and compassion in the midst of daily life—the core messages of Buddha and Jesus.

We aspire to cultivate fellowship and solidarity, transcend perceived differences, and begin the transformative work of healing ourselves, our families, our community, and our nation. Our guide for this journey will be Living Buddha, Living Christ, the acclaimed book by peacemaker and founder of the Plum Village Tradition of Engaged Buddhism, Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh.

What to Expect

The event will be held at Unity Church of Charleston, 2535 Leeds Avenue, Charleston, SC. Check-in starts at 8:30 am. Heather will provide meditation instructions and guidance throughout the day. Our activities will include:

  • Guided sitting meditation to calm the mind.
  • Walking meditation and other mindful movement.
  • A mindful, silent meal to nourish our connection with life.
  • Deep relaxation to restore your energy.
  • Mindful sharing to connect with one another.
  • A Dharma talk by Heather on living deeply within these two great traditions.

About Heather Lyn Mann

Heather has been actively involved with the Plum Village Community of Engaged Buddhism for more than twenty years. In March 2026, she received the Lamp Transmission from the Plum Village monastic community in France, elevating her to Dharma Teacher (Dharmacharya). She carries the lineage of the 43rd generation of the Lam Te Dhyana School. Thich Nhat Hanh ordained Heather in 2006 as a lay Buddhist minister in the Order of Interbeing, giving her the Dharma name Chan Lien An (True Lotus Peace). Heather also draws from deep spiritual roots in the Lutheran, Baptist, and Unitarian Universalist traditions.

Registration: The day includes a plant-based meal, drinks and snacks. People with food allergies are invited to bring their own plant-based meal. Refrigeration will be available.

Our sliding-scale fee for this event is based on Equitable Pricing Tiers:

  • Scholarship—a reduced rate subsidized by the generosity of other retreatants (apply for scholarship when you register for the event)
  • $55—covers the costs for the Day of Mindfulness: food, supplies, facility rental
  • $110—the higher tier contribution is for those with financial means (appropriate if you are living in a house or apartment, driving a car, have food and utility security, a savings account). This tier covers your participation and supports scholarships for other retreatants.
  • Plus Dāna—registration fees do not cover any compensation for our teacher. Additional donations to support Heather’s ministry will help sustain her teaching so that others may hear the Dharma and learn how to apply the lessons to daily living. Dāna is an ancient, giving tradition that carries the teachings forward.

Scholarships: available, especially to young people (ages 18-35), people of color, LGBTQIA+, and other diversities. When you register, please answer the question regarding scholarships to submit a scholarship request.

What to bring: chairs will be available for all. Participants who wish to sit on the floor are welcome to bring a zabuton (mat) and cushion. Everyone may want to bring a yoga mat or towel to support deep relaxation practice.
